Summary

SUNY Geneseo is committed to providing a supportive environment for its academic mission, considering students as adults responsible for their actions. The college respects students' privacy and autonomy, expecting them to behave legally and responsibly. Violations of law or policy will result in sanctions, with repeat offenses dealt with severely. The use, sale, or possession of illicit drugs, including marijuana, is prohibited, despite New York State's revised laws. Alcohol consumption is allowed for those 21 and over in private residence hall rooms or at events serviced by Campus Auxiliary Services, but is prohibited in public areas and at events where it is not explicitly permitted. Students are responsible for their own conduct and that of their visitors, with misconduct addressed through the college's conduct system and/or University Police. New York State laws governing alcohol are also outlined, including prohibitions on selling alcohol to those under 21, misrepresenting age, and using false identification to obtain alcohol.
