Summary

UPMC and the Italian government partnered in 1997 to manage ISMETT, a leading transplant and high-specialty center in Palermo. The Ri.MED Foundation was founded in 2006 to promote research projects, and it has broken ground on the Biomedical Research and Biotechnology Center (BRBC) in Carini. The BRBC will investigate contemporary biomedical research topics and become a scientific focal point for global researchers. It will be funded by the Italian government, managed by UPMC, and focus on neurobiology, diseases of aging, infectious disease, immunology, oncology, and cardiovascular diseases. The center will employ 50 principal investigators and up to 600 people, develop research partnerships, and host a business incubator.

The BRBC is recruiting a Director to develop, implement, and execute its research strategy. The Director will lead the Scientific and Administrative Management Teams, report to the VP Health Services, and be based in Carini. Key responsibilities include drafting the three-year research plan, managing the BRBC budget, setting scientific priorities, and promoting significant research. The ideal candidate has proven experience in leading a major program, an outstanding scientific track record, and experience in managing research centers. They should also have a broad knowledge of biomedical research areas, an international mindset, and excellent relationship management skills. Fluency in English is required.
