Attendance Strategy.pdf

The strategy aims to improve attendance at North Mead Primary Academy (NMPA) through a multitiered system of support (MTSS) approach. The strategy consists of three tiers:

Tier 1: School Wide: Universal school-wide systems to prevent poor attendance, including:
+ Culture of Shared Responsibility: Staff awareness and understanding of attendance importance
+ Culture of High Expectations: High expectations for pupil attendance and punctuality
+ Attendance Team: Senior Champion, Removing Barriers Team Leader, Attendance Officer, Family Support Worker, ELSA, SENDCo, and LA Education Welfare Officer
+ Positive Relationships: Personal welcomes, inclusive environment, and research-proven impact on attendance
+ Communication: Various channels to inform the school community about attendance priorities
+ Attendance Registers: Recording attendance using Bromcom (MIS system)
+ First Response Calls Protocol: Contacting parents/carers of absent children by 10am on the first day
Tier 2: Targeted Interventions: Support for pupils with attendance concerns, including:
+ Removing Barriers Team
+ Weekly Attendance Team/EWO Meeting
+ Discussion with Pupil
+ Mentoring
+ Family Support Referral
+ Meaningful Work
+ Rewards for Improved Attendance
+ School Action (First Communication, Letter of Concern, Pastoral Team Meeting, Red Attendance Letter, Final Warning Letter, Court Action)
* Tier 3: Individualised Interventions: Intensive support for pupils with significant attendance concerns, including:
+ Red Flag Children
+ Personalised Support
+ Targeted Advice
+ External Agency Referral
+ Penalty Notice
+ Interschool Working
+ Response to Home Schooling Request
+ Response to Attendance Orders
+ Child Missing in Education

The strategy is effective from September 2022, with a review date of October 2024. It is designed to be flexible, with the intensity of support tailored to individual pupils' needs.
