30 Jahre nach dem Mauerfall lassen sich bei den Einstellungen zur Demokratie kaum noch relevante Differenzen zwischen Ost- und Westdeutschland zeigen – sehr wohl aber zwischen Jüngeren und Älteren im gesamten Bundesgebiet. Niedrigere Ansprüche an die Demokratie bei den Jüngeren erscheinen dabei als besonders problematisch, auch wenn insgesamt die Beurteilung der deutschen Demokratie sehr positiv ausfällt. Die Erfüllungswerte für Wahlen liegen bei 83 Prozent, für Parlamente bei 72, für Parteien bei 78 und für Regierungen bei 71 Prozent, der Durchschnittswert der Legitimität liegt bei 76 Prozent. Der Anteil derjenigen, die 90 Prozent und mehr erfüllt sehen, liegt bei knapp 20 Prozent der Befragten. Die Daten zeigen, dass Befragte, die jünger als 35 Jahre sind, die Erfüllung ihrer Erwartungen in die Demokratie um 7 Prozentpunkte höher bewerten als Befragte, die älter als 35 Jahre sind.
