Savanta ComRes interviewed 2,119 UK adults from 5-7 February 2021 about reducing the deficit after the COVID-19 pandemic. The results show:
41% think increasing taxes that impact higher rate taxpayers is the best way,
19% think reducing services is the best way,
13% think increasing taxes that impact everyone is the best way,
10% think the government should maintain its current level of spending, and
17% don't know.
Regarding Capital Gains Tax, most respondents think income from capital gains should be taxed at a higher rate than income from work.
57% think it's unfair that Capital Gains Tax is currently set at a lower rate than Income Tax.
If the government increases Capital Gains Tax, 24% think their view of Chancellor Rishi Sunak would improve, and 17% think their view of Prime Minister Boris Johnson would improve.
