Blackrock College has a CCTV policy to regulate the use of Closed Circuit Television for monitoring internal and external areas of the premises. The purpose of the policy is to enhance security, promote health and safety, prevent bullying, and reduce crime and anti-social behavior. The scope of the policy includes the location and use of CCTV, monitoring, recording, and use of recorded material. The college owes a duty of care to its employees, students, and invitees and utilizes CCTV systems to enhance security and surveillance. The use of CCTV will be conducted in a professional, ethical, and legal manner, and any diversion of its use for other purposes is prohibited. The policy prohibits monitoring based on characteristics such as race, gender, and disability, and video monitoring of public areas is limited to uses that do not violate individual privacy. The college will not engage in covert surveillance, and notification of CCTV monitoring will be provided through signage and a copy of the policy available on request.
