In August 2021, the Antrim Ballymena Children and Young People's Strategic Partnership conducted a survey to gather views on being active outside. The survey found that most children and young people (CYP) were active between 2-16 hours a week, but 87% of CYP and 85% of parents wanted to be more active outside. Top physical activities CYP wanted to do more of outside included tennis, football, cycling, and walking. Barriers to doing more physical activity outside included weather, lack of facilities/activities, and safety concerns. To overcome these barriers, CYP suggested better motivation, weather shelter, and more facilities, while parents highlighted the need for better facilities, cheaper activities, and safer environments.
