The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) is an international agreement aimed at regulating the trade of endangered species. Thailand is a member of CITES, having signed the convention in 1975 and ratified it in 1983. The country has established a committee to oversee the implementation of CITES, which is responsible for regulating the trade of endangered species, including animals and plants. The committee is composed of representatives from various government agencies, including the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, the Ministry of Commerce, and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. CITES has three appendices that list species regulated by the convention, with Appendix I being the most restrictive, listing species that are threatened with extinction and for which trade is prohibited. Thailand has established laws and regulations to implement CITES, including the Wild Animal Reservation and Protection Act of 1992, which regulates the trade of wild animals and plants. The country has also established a system for issuing permits for the import, export, and re-export of regulated species.
