Summary

The Government of India has issued office memoranda regarding the counting of the limitation period for various purposes under the CCS (CCA) Rules, 1965, and CCS (Pension) Rules, 1972. Due to the COVID-19 lockdown, the period from March 24, 2020, was initially excluded from the prescribed timelines. However, with the phased reopening of activities, it has been decided that this exclusion will cease to have effect, and actions may be completed within the original timelines, excluding the lockdown period. The lockdown period will be excluded from the time limits prescribed for various activities, such as review of suspension orders, submission of written statements of defense, and completion of inquiries. If the time left to complete a task is less than 15 days after the lockdown is lifted, the process may be completed within 15 days. Additionally, timelines for receipt of applications for direct recruitment, deputation, and other purposes will be extended by the number of days of the lockdown.
