Thames Crossing Action Group opposes the proposed £8.2bn+ Lower Thames Crossing (LTC), which would be destructive and harmful, and not meet its objectives. The group welcomes the chance to respond to the Operation Brock consultation, as the LTC would not solve congestion and pollution problems at the Dartford Crossing and would create additional issues. The LTC would take only 4% of traffic away from the Dartford Crossing, leaving it over capacity, and would bring a 50% increase in cross-river traffic. The group highlights concerns about the impacts on the A2, A229, and M20, and the lack of adequate connections between the two crossings. They also point out that the LTC would increase carbon emissions by over 7 million tonnes, contradicting the South East's mission to reach carbon net zero. The group suggests that rail improvements, such as a rail station at the Port of Dover and east-west rail capacity orbiting London, could be a more sustainable solution to reduce traffic and congestion. They call upon Maidstone Borough Council to reconsider support for the proposed LTC to avoid future traffic issues.
