Summary

The European Trade Union Committee for Education (ETUCE) attended a Roundtable on digital skills for the European labour force, advocating for high-quality initial trainings for teachers and lifelong learning objectives in ICT. The meeting aimed to create the Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition, launching in December 2016, to address digital skills gaps and prepare the workforce for future digital jobs. ETUCE emphasized the importance of qualified teachers in integrating ICT in education and raised concerns about ICT being used solely for profit-driven education. The organization called for adequate infrastructure, funding, and working conditions for ICT in education institutions, as well as protection of teachers' professional autonomy. ETUCE represents 131 education trade unions and 11 million teachers in Europe, promoting ICT in education as a topic for social dialogue and collective agreements.
