On Friday, participants gathered throughout the day in contact groups, informal consultations, and other meetings under the Convention and the Protocol. In the evening, a stocktaking plenary under the COP/CMP took place. The COP 18 President, Al-Attiyah, opened the stocktaking plenary and requested the Chairs of the SBs and AWGs to report on the state of work in their respective groups. The SBSTA Chair, Richard Muyungi, reported that SBSTA was making good progress towards its expected conclusion on Saturday afternoon, with conclusions reached on several agenda items. The SBI Chair, Thomaz Chruszczow, reported that work on adaptation was completed, but that country-specific adaptation plans were "stuck." The AWG-KP Chair, Madeleine Diouf, reported that a spin-off group was narrowing down options on the carry-over of Assigned Amount Units (AAUs). The AWG-LCA Chair, Aysar Tayeb, reported that there were still differences among parties on several issues and that the group was considering how to discuss these issues to achieve a rapid conclusion.
