Summary

Oklahoma passed House Bill No. 1775, effective July 1, 2021, which prohibits teaching that one race or sex is inherently superior to another, that an individual's moral character is determined by their race or sex, or that individuals should be discriminated against based on their race or sex. The law also prohibits teaching that individuals bear responsibility for past actions of others of the same race or sex, or that meritocracy or hard work ethic are racist or sexist. However, it does not prohibit teaching concepts consistent with Oklahoma Academic Standards. The law applies to K-12 schools, including charter schools, and prohibits the use of prohibited concepts in instruction, textbooks, diversity plans, and mandatory diversity training.
