A Domestic Homicide Review (DHR) was conducted into the death of Paul, who died from a stab wound in September 2012. Paul's partner, Katie, was charged with his murder but found not guilty. The review, commissioned by the Kent and Medway Community Safety Partnership, aimed to identify lessons that could be learned to reduce the risk of domestic abuse in the future. The review panel, consisting of senior representatives from various agencies, analyzed the involvement of local professionals and organizations with Paul and Katie, focusing on their individual and collective responses to domestic abuse. The review considered issues such as mental health, substance abuse, and child protection concerns. Despite Katie's acquittal, the agencies involved agreed to complete the review to identify useful lessons that could help reduce the risk of domestic abuse. The review found that both Paul and Katie had extensive histories of crime, alcohol, and drug abuse, and that Paul had a history of domestic abuse and violence. The review's findings and recommendations are intended to improve services for domestic abuse victims and their children through improved inter-agency working.
