Summary

The University of Leeds is working with Access Consultants, Turner and Townsend, to improve the physical campus environment and meet the requirements of the Equality Act 2010. The consultants are providing advice and guidance on existing and new environments, undertaking design appraisals, writing design specifications, and assisting with policy and procedure development. A current project involves a re-audit of the entire campus, which will provide recommendations based on a contemporary understanding of the Equality Act. The University is also providing training and resources to staff, including an Equality and Inclusion training event for Residential Service team members, to help deliver high standards of service and meet individual needs. Additionally, the University is reminding staff and students to be considerate of obstacles on pavements, such as parking and waste, which can affect blind and partially sighted people.
