Summary

The Association of Manitoba Municipalities (AMM) met with Minister Ian Wishart and representatives of the Department of Education and Training in 2017 to discuss priority issues. The AMM recommends modernizing education funding by establishing a multi-stakeholder Task Force and rescinding the $5,000 cap on the Farmland School Tax Rebate. They also recommend including municipalities as eligible applicants for the Canada-Manitoba Job Grant and leveraging federal funding for employment and skills training programs to support economic development professionals and water and wastewater operators. Additionally, the AMM urges the Province to provide new, sustainable long-term funding to reduce school division reliance on property taxes.
