The Romanian penitentiary system has different regimes and work opportunities. When a prisoner arrives, they are taken to a detention place determined by the National Administration of Penitentiaries, considering factors like location, safety, and social reintegration needs. The prisoner is then handed over to a penitentiary based on an imprisonment punishment enforcement warrant and other documents. After arrival, the prisoner undergoes a registration process, including body search, fingerprinting, medical examination, and briefing on rights and obligations. They are then assigned to a quarantine and observation department for 21 days, during which initial evaluation and intervention activities are carried out. The prisoner's enforcement conditions are subsequently determined based on factors like punishment duration, risk level, and behavior.
