Summary

Employers see the social dimension of the EU as closely tied to competitiveness, with higher productivity based on skills and knowledge being the key to maintaining well-being in European societies. Economic growth and a well-functioning internal market are preconditions for strengthening the social dimension. Demographic change and digitalisation require adaptable education, training, labour markets, and welfare systems. The EU should only address social matters that require an EU approach, respecting subsidiarity and proportionality principles. Existing rules and structures should be enforced more efficiently, with the Social Scoreboard guiding Member States' reforms. National and European social partners should be respected, with the European Pillar of Social Rights serving as a guide for reforms, not a basis for new legislation.
