Summary

People fleeing Ukraine have the right to enter Hungary, with opportunities depending on nationality. Ukrainian citizens with biometric passports can stay in the EU for 3 months, and the EU offers temporary protection to Ukrainians and their family members who lived in Ukraine before February 24, 2022. Hungarian citizens fleeing Ukraine are entitled to the same services as Ukrainians applying for protection, but cannot apply for temporary protection. Non-Ukrainian citizens who lived in Ukraine can only apply for a temporary residence certificate, valid for 30 days. Refugees recognized in Ukraine are also entitled to temporary protection. Temporary protection is available for up to 3 years and includes rights to accommodation, food, medical care, work, and education.
