The State of Eritrea's Ministry of Land, Water and Environment released its First Biennial Update Report (BUR I) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in December 2021. The report covers national circumstances, institutional arrangements, greenhouse gas inventory, and other climate change-related topics. It provides an overview of Eritrea's geographical characteristics, administrative areas, land use, ecosystems, population, education, health, climate, economic profile, agriculture, energy, transportation, industry, waste, and national development priorities. The report also discusses the country's environmental context, marine and coastal resources, water resources, and forest resources. Additionally, it outlines the institutional arrangement for measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) and provides a national greenhouse gas inventory, including emissions trends, sectorial emissions, and uncertainty analysis.
