ETUCE's 2016 Regional Conference adopted a resolution emphasizing the key role of education trade unions in promoting quality education, recognizing the dual role of trade unions in supporting teachers' employment and professional matters, and acknowledging the challenges posed by the global economic crisis, reluctance of education authorities to engage in social dialogue, and new trade agreements. The resolution notes ETUCE's efforts to influence European policies, advocate for education trade unions as competent social partners, and achieve substantial agreements through the European Sectoral Social Dialogue in Education. It acknowledges the importance of an autonomous, highly qualified, and valued teaching profession, and the need to protect and promote it. The resolution asserts the commitment of ETUCE member organizations to improve social dialogue, collective bargaining, and capacity building, and to enhance participation in European-level political decisions, while recognizing the direct impact of European-level policies on national education policies.
