Summary

The National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) has updated its Non Pro membership conditions, effective January 1, 2022. A Non Pro is defined as someone who has not won more than $200,000 in Open reining competition and has not received remuneration for training or showing horses, or giving instruction on the showing or training of a performance horse, in the three years preceding their application. Non Pros can receive remuneration for endorsing products or services, but cannot be paid to train or show horses, or give lessons to riders who ride in a western saddle. They can show horses owned by their immediate family, but must pay for all entry fees and expenses. Any transaction relating to the sale or transfer of a horse to a Non Pro must be at fair market value. The rule change allows Non Pros to benefit from their name, image, and likeness (NIL) through endorsement deals, but they must still comply with NRHA rules and regulations.
