Summary

On April 8, 2010, the National Reference Group (NRG) under the 7Up4 project met to develop an advocacy strategy roadmap for competition reforms in The Gambia. The roadmap outlines seven action points:
1. Enhance understanding of National Assembly members and CSOs on competition issues.
2. Engage proactively with the business sector to disseminate ideas on competition.
3. Enhance consumer awareness of competition issues and create a consumer movement.
4. Assist the government to improve capacity for policy formulation.
5. Assist the Gambia Competition Commission (GCC) to resolve technical constraints.
6. Advocate for greater funding support for regulatory authorities/agencies.
7. Facilitate a framework of cooperation between the competition commission and sector regulators.

The implementation of this roadmap is expected to create an enabling environment for the effective enforcement of the competition regime in The Gambia.
