In Nederland werken meer dan 1 miljoen mensen in de zorgsector, waarbij het leveren van de best mogelijke zorg hoog in het vaandel staat. De Governancecode Zorg 2022 beschrijft zeven principes voor goede zorg:

1. Wensen en behoeften van de cliënt als vertrekpunt
2. Ruimte voor professionele verantwoordelijkheid
3. Medezeggenschap
4. Verantwoording afleggen en transparant handelen
5. Invloed van belanghebbenden
6. Zorgvuldige afweging van belangen
7. Goed bestuur en continu ontwikkelen van professionaliteit en deskundigheid.

Deze principes zijn bedoeld om goede zorg te waarborgen en het maatschappelijk vertrouwen te bouwen. De raad van bestuur en de raad van toezicht zijn verantwoordelijk voor de governance van de zorgorganisatie en moeten zich houden aan de taken en bevoegdheden die in de wet of in de statuten van de organisatie zijn vastgelegd.
