Summary

The Japanese government has revised the energy efficiency standards for buildings, making it easier for suppliers of single-family and collective housing to confirm compliance. The new standards, which came into effect in November 2022, simplify the evaluation of energy efficiency performance and do not require architectural confirmation procedures for "energy-saving compatibility judgment." The standards also allow for the evaluation of various systems, including long-term excellent housing and ZEH standards. Additionally, the external skin performance can be confirmed using "specification standards," and primary energy consumption performance can be calculated. The government has also introduced a new law that will make energy efficiency standards compulsory for all new and renovated homes from April 2025.
