Summary

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the World Trade Organization (WTO) conducted a survey to identify barriers to bilateral trade between India and Africa and measures to strengthen their business and investment ties. The survey found that access to trade finance and lack of knowledge about the Indian market were concerns for African traders, while transport and logistical shortcomings and an inefficient business environment were concerns for Indian counterparts. Both sides agreed that improved trade facilitation measures could reduce trade costs and delays, leading to enhanced trade and investment. India-Africa trade has grown by 32% annually between 2005 and 2011, and is projected to reach $90 billion by 2015, with Indian private investment in Africa surging in sectors such as telecommunications, IT, energy, and automobiles.
