The Cardiff Capital Region City Deal submitted a full Expression of Interest (EOI) to the UK Research and Innovation's Strength in Places Fund Wave 2 in October 2019, focusing on developing a Medtech Region of Excellence in medical devices, diagnostics, and implants. The EOI aims to create pioneering centers to support the region's 200 Medtech companies and research organizations. The consortium partners, including Creo Medical Group Plc, Renishaw plc, Cardiff University, and Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, have strong credentials and propose to develop a cluster concept based on connecting, aligning, and coordinating organizations to leverage resources and assets. The proposal aims to create 300 high-skill jobs and reinforce hundreds more, with potential for spin-off inward investment and FDI opportunities. Two other EOI submissions were made by partner organizations within the Cardiff Capital region, from Fintech SE Wales and Clwstwr, with the Cardiff Capital Region referenced as a key supporter.
