Summary

In 2010, Japan joined the Response and Assistance Network (RANET) of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to contribute to international assistance in case of a nuclear accident or radiological emergency. The Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) was registered as a National Assistance Capability (NAC) with resources capable of External Based Support (EBS) in seven areas: aerial survey, radiation monitoring, environmental measurements, assessment and advice, internal dose assessment, bioassay, and dose reconstruction. After registration, JAEA received three inquiries about possible support but did not eventually provide assistance. However, JAEA participated almost every year in the international Convention Exercise (ConvEx) carried out by the IAEA in connection with RANET. This report describes the outline of RANET and JAEA's related activities for RANET registration and participation in ConvEx.
