Keeping Children Safe in Education is statutory guidance for schools and colleges in England to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. Governing bodies, proprietors, and management committees must ensure all staff read Part one of the guidance. Schools and colleges are part of the wider safeguarding system, and staff have a role to play in identifying concerns, sharing information, and taking prompt action. Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children means protecting them from maltreatment, preventing impairment of health or development, and ensuring they grow up in safe and effective care. All staff have a responsibility to provide a safe environment, identify concerns early, and provide help for children. A designated safeguarding lead will provide support to staff and liaise with other services. Staff should be aware of systems that support safeguarding, including child protection policies, behaviour policies, and the role of the designated safeguarding lead.
