The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) published a report on road traffic accidents in Europe and North America in 2021. UNECE is one of five UN regional commissions, established in 1947 to rebuild post-war Europe and develop economic activity. The organization has 56 member states and focuses on sustainable development, providing a platform for policy dialogue, international legal instruments, and technical cooperation. The UNECE Sustainable Transport Division works to improve traffic safety, environmental performance, and energy efficiency in the transport sector. The division is the secretariat of the Inland Transport Committee (ITC) and the ECOSOC Committee of Experts on the Transport of Dangerous Goods. The report is part of the UNECE's efforts to support its member states in achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
