Summary

The US faces a crisis in Latino behavioral health due to a shortage of Latino professionals, with less than 3% of physicians, 1% of clinical psychologists, 4.3% of social workers, and 1.7% of registered nurses being Latino, resulting in unmet behavioral health needs and disparities. A multidisciplinary workforce is needed to ensure health equity, with a diverse, bilingual, and bicultural workforce necessary to address the crisis. Five consensus statements were developed, including the need for meaningful access to behavioral health care services and a diverse workforce, with recommendations and action items to serve as a blueprint for improvement. An Alliance for Latino Behavioral Health Workforce Development was formed to lead and implement the recommendations.
