Summary

The City of Huntington Beach certified a Final Subsequent Environmental Impact Report in 2010 for the Seawater Desalination Project at Huntington Beach, a 50-million-gallon-per-day desalination plant. The plant is located adjacent to the AES Huntington Beach Generating Station (HBGS) and uses offshore components of the HBGS's once-through cooling system. The California State Lands Commission (CSLC) approved an amendment to the General Lease — Industrial Use in 2010 to include Poseidon Resources as a Co-Lessee, and in 2016, Poseidon applied to amend the lease to modify the existing intake and outfall structures. The proposed modifications include installing 1-millimeter wedgewire screens on the seawater intake line and adding a multiport seawater diffuser to the discharge line.
