OFC topic categories include fibers and optical propagation effects, fiber and waveguide-based devices, optical devices for switching and signal compensation, and digital transmission systems. NFOEC topic categories include optical networks and services, network technologies, and access networks.

The Corning Outstanding Student Paper Competition offers up to $1,500 for students who submit innovative papers in optical communications. The competition is administered by the OSA Foundation and recognizes research excellence and presentation abilities.

The conference is sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society, IEEE Photonics Society, and The Optical Society, with Telcordia Technologies as a non-financial technical co-sponsor.
