Summary

The Standing Committee on Government Operations reviewed the 2020-2021 Annual Report of the Ombud, commending the Ombud's user-friendly approach, and made two recommendations: that the GNWT review and amend the Ombud Act by Fall 2025, and that the Speaker amend the Rules to make annual reports of statutory officers available to the public sooner. The Committee noted that the GNWT declined to improve the Ombud Act during the 19th Assembly, despite previous recommendations from the Ombud and the Committee. The Committee's previous recommendations still stand, with some being high priority, and the Ombud confirmed that the outstanding recommendations from her 2019-20 Annual Report are still relevant.
