The Onon-Balj basin is a unique area at the edge of Siberian boreal coniferous forest and Daurian steppe, rich in biodiversity with many rare and endangered species, including the white-naped crane, hooded crane, and great bustard. The area was designated as a National Park in 2000 to protect its biodiversity and develop environmentally friendly tourism. The management plan for 2011-2015 aims to protect target biodiversity, including the great bustard, white-naped crane, taimen, red deer, riparian forest, pine forest, and Ereen Range, and to develop responsible tourism. Four strategic actions have been developed to address threats to target biodiversity, including improving the capacity of the National Park administration, implementing effective natural resource management, developing responsible tourism, and improving cooperation and partnership among protected area administrations. The plan requires funding of MNT 549,505 million, with 57% to be funded by public spending and incomes generated by the NP administration, and the remaining 43% to be mobilized from external sources. Regular monitoring and evaluation will be carried out to assess the implementation of the management plan.
