Summary

Das Forschungszentrum Jülich und die nukleare Entsorgungsgesellschaft JEN planen, 152 Castor-Behälter mit Atommüll von Jülich nach Ahaus zu transportieren. Die Behälter enthalten etwa 300.000 abgebrannte Kugelbrennelemente aus dem stillgelegten Versuchsreaktor AVR. Die Transporte sollen ab 2024 stattfinden, obwohl viele Fragen zum Umgang mit dem Atommüll ungeklärt sind und es Bedenken hinsichtlich der Sicherheit und der Rechtmäßigkeit des Transports gibt. Eine Testfahrt ohne Behälter hat bereits stattgefunden, und eine weitere mit leerem Behälter ist geplant. Es gibt Widerstand gegen den Transport, und es sind Klagen gegen die Einlagerung des Atommülls in Ahaus eingereicht worden. Es wird zu Protestaktionen am 15. Oktober 2023 aufgerufen, um gegen den Transport zu demonstrieren und für den Bau eines neuen Zwischenlagers in Jülich zu fordern.
