The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) issued a notice regarding the reopening of the public comment period for the Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement on the Makah Tribe's request to hunt eastern North Pacific gray whales. The comment period was initially set to end on August 15, 2022, and was extended to October 14, 2022. NMFS is now reopening the comment period for an additional 7 days, from October 28, 2022, to November 3, 2022. The Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement is available electronically, and comments can be submitted via the Federal eRulemaking Portal or by email, mail, or anonymously.

Additionally, NMFS announced the issuance of exempted fishing permits for highly migratory species (HMS) in 2020 and 2021, with a total of 20 permits issued in 2021 and 26 in 2022, allowing for the collection of various species, including sharks. The permits were issued for research, display, and other purposes, with some allowing for the retention of species and others requiring the release of caught species.

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission also announced a notice regarding an Information Collection Request that has been forwarded to the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs for review and comment, with comments due by November 25, 2022.
