Summary

La Plastic Tax, introdotta in Italia con la legge di bilancio 2020, non è mai entrata in vigore a causa di continui posticipi, nonostante i settori industriali coinvolti abbiano fatto registrare risultati positivi negli ultimi anni. Ciò ha comportato una perdita di ingenti quantità di denaro per le casse pubbliche, oltre 6 miliardi di euro, e ha favorito un settore industriale che continua a generare grandi profitti nonostante gli elevati impatti ambientali. L'entrata in vigore della Plastic Tax europea costa all'Italia circa 800 milioni di euro all'anno, che potevano essere in parte coperti dalla Plastic Tax italiana. La mancata applicazione della Plastic Tax rappresenta una contraddizione in termini politici e ha impedito di promuovere un piano di riconversione produttiva per il settore del packaging verso una maggiore sostenibilità ambientale.
