Summary

Section 241 of the Companies Act 2016 requires individuals to register with the Registrar to act as a secretary, with the Registrar issuing a practising certificate upon satisfaction of qualifications and requirements. To qualify, a person must be a natural person, 18 years old, a Malaysian citizen or permanent resident, and licensed by the Commission or a member of a specified body. Applications for a practising certificate must be made through the electronic filing system, with the certificate valid for one year. Renewal applications must be made at least 30 days before expiry, with the renewed certificate valid for up to three years.
