Summary

On April 30, 2010, Governor Bob Riley signed Act 2010-732, effective July 1, 2010, requiring dealers purchasing precious items for resale to obtain annual state and county business licenses, costing $100 and $50 respectively, and forward a copy to local law enforcement within 5 days. Precious items include those made of gold, silver, platinum, precious or semiprecious stones, or pearls. Dealers must maintain records, display a copy of the law, and report purchases to law enforcement weekly, holding items for 15 business days after reporting. Violations are Class B misdemeanors.
