Summary

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) is publishing a final rule for Public Transportation Agency Safety Plans, as authorized by the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21). The rule requires states and certain operators of public transportation systems that receive federal financial assistance to develop safety plans based on the Safety Management System approach. The plans must be implemented by July 19, 2019, and will help ensure public transportation systems are safe nationwide. The FTA will host webinars to discuss the requirements of the rule and provide technical assistance and guidance to help operators comply.
