Summary

The government has introduced several COVID-19 employment income supports, including the Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme (EWSS), Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP), Short Time Work Support (STWS), and COVID-19 Enhanced Illness Benefit.

The EWSS provides a flat rate subsidy to employers for each employee, based on their gross weekly wage, and will remain in place until 31 March 2021.

The PUP is available to individuals who have lost their job or been temporarily laid off due to the pandemic, and will be in place until April 2021, with changes to payment rates taking effect on 17 September 2020, 1 February 2021, and 1 April 2021.

The STWS is an income support payment for people who have been temporarily placed on a shorter working week, and the rate depends on the change in work pattern.

The COVID-19 Enhanced Illness Benefit is paid at a flat rate of €350 and is available to individuals who are self-isolating or diagnosed with COVID-19, with no six-day waiting period, and will be in place until 31 March 2021.
