The Malawi Gazette Supplement, dated 18th January, 2021, contains the Public Health (Corona Virus and COVID-19) (Prevention, Containment and Management) (Amendment) Rules, 2021. The Minister of Health, Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda, made the following amendments to the Public Health (Corona Virus and COVID-19) (Prevention, Containment and Management) Rules, 2020.

The amendments include:
- Inserting a new definition of "education institution" in rule 2
- Amending the definition of "gathering" in rule 2 by substituting "one hundred" with "fifty"
- Inserting a new paragraph (3) in rule 6, allowing a person to report another person who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 and is not complying with rule 5
- Amending rule 7 by substituting "attend the burial" with "handle the dead body"
- Amending rule 11 by adding a new paragraph (c) and substituting "-and" with ";"
- Replacing rule 12 with a new rule, allowing the Minister to order the closure or re-opening of an education institution
- Amending rule 16 by adding a new paragraph (c) and renumbering paragraphs (c) and (d)
- Amending the First Schedule by adding a new paragraph 3, stating that public service facilities shall open at 06:00 a.m. and close at 08:00 p.m.
- Amending the Third Schedule by inserting a new paragraph (3) and renumbering paragraph (4)
- Amending the Sixth Schedule by substituting "09:00 p.m." with "08:00 p.m." and inserting a new paragraph 3, stating that market places shall open at 06:00 a.m. and close at 05:00 p.m.
