Summary

The voluntary and community sector contributes significantly to health and wellbeing, with 14,218 third sector organisations in Yorkshire and Humber having an annual turnover of £2.75 billion. However, intelligence relating to the sector is poorly represented in statutory processes, leading to commissioning being led by public sector data sets. A project was undertaken to develop a replicable methodology to capture voluntary and community sector intelligence, focusing on three pilot areas, and produced two rapid intelligence reviews: one on foodbanks in Sheffield and one on services for pressured parents in Wakefield. The reviews aimed to bring the sector's understanding of the issues to the attention of local policy makers and commissioners.
