The UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2501 on December 16, 2019, reaffirming its commitment to Afghanistan's sovereignty and stability, and expressing concern about the security situation, including terrorist activities by the Taliban, Al-Qaida, and ISIL. The Council urged a reduction in violence, supported inclusive intra-Afghan negotiations, and recognized the need to combat the threat to international peace and security. The resolution decided to continue measures against individuals and entities designated as a threat to Afghanistan's peace and stability, and extended the mandate of the 1267/1988 Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team for 12 months. The Council also decided to review the implementation of the measures and consider adjustments to support peace and stability in Afghanistan.
