Deteriorating drought conditions in Somalia and reduced humanitarian funding in Dadaab have created a need for strengthened information on humanitarian needs, intentions, and population movement. A sampled camp-level assessment was conducted in Dagahaley from 17 to 24 November 2017, surveying 101 households and 10 key informants. Findings show that 39% of households have pregnant or lactating women, 6% have disabled or chronically ill members, and 7% have sick children. The main reported region of origin is Lower Juba (39%), and the main reported push factors are fear of conflict (64%), conflict in the community (55%), and drought (46%). The main reported pull factors for choosing Dadaab are availability of aid (81%), law and order (62%), and no conflict (93%). 45% of households are unlikely to return to Somalia, citing fear of conflict (85%), lack of livelihood opportunities (39%), and lack of property (31%) as main reasons. 54% of households reported wanting to return to contribute to Somalia, while 31% reported lack of services in the camp and 23% reported lack of livelihood opportunities in the camp as reasons for considering return. 8% of households reported having members who had already returned to Somalia, with lack of livelihood opportunities (63%) and potential closure of the camp (50%) being the main reasons for leaving Dadaab. 100% of households reported being registered, with 90% possessing identity documents, including ID cards, birth certificates, and proof of marriage. The most preferred channels for receiving information are radio (93%), community meetings (74%), and notice boards and posters (39%). The primary information needs reported by households are potential camp closure (42%), health advice and treatment (36%), security updates on Dadaab (36%), and how to access movement passes (33%). 54% of households reported receiving assistance in the 3 months prior to the assessment, with food (72%), legal assistance (29%), and shelter materials (21%) being the top types of assistance received.
