Summary

The World Trade Organization's (WTO) Committee on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures proposes a "mentoring" system to assist developing country members in operating their SPS National Notification Authority (NNA) and National Enquiry Point (NEP). The system, established on a voluntary basis, aims to help members implement transparency provisions of the SPS Agreement. Members can offer or request mentoring assistance, which may include information, procedural guidance, legislative guidance, resource assistance, translation assistance, workshops, and training. The WTO Secretariat will match members requesting assistance with those offering to serve as mentors, based on identified needs, expertise, and languages. An annual report will be prepared on the functioning of the mentoring procedure. Interested members are invited to register with the Secretariat by submitting the relevant attachment.
