Summary

A student must attend at least 90% of each class. Excused absences include field trips, court appearances, CPS visits, holy days, medical absences with documentation, college visits (2 per year for juniors and seniors), and military visits. Parents must notify the school of absences and provide documentation when necessary. Excessive unexcused absences or tardies can lead to truancy charges. Truancy is defined as absences without authorization, including not showing up, showing up late, skipping school, cutting class, or excessive early checkouts. State-approved absences, such as extracurricular activities and documented health care appointments, do not count against attendance. Students must bring a parent-signed note or doctor's note to excuse an absence, and notes must be received within 3 days of the student's return to school.
