Summary

Ofcom is implementing measures to require compliance with international guidelines for limiting exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF) generated by radio spectrum use. The guidelines, published by the International Commission for Non-Ionising Radiation Protection (ICNIRP), include limits for EMF exposure to protect the general public. Ofcom will incorporate these limits into spectrum licences and has published a final version of the EMF licence condition and guidance on EMF compliance and enforcement. An updated EMF calculator has also been published to help licensees assess compliance. The formal licence variation process will start shortly, proposing to vary existing licences to include the new EMF licence condition.
