Summary

The College's substitution pay procedure for regular support staff is outlined in the collective agreement, Article 35. When an employee replaces another in a higher classification, they receive the higher rate of pay for the full period, either the rate closest to their previous salary or the minimum of the new salary band, whichever is greater. Assignments are typically made for absences of five consecutive days or longer, and the employee must perform the majority of the duties of the higher classification to receive substitution pay. The Dean/Director/manager completes a Staffing Form, and Human Resources processes it to ensure the correct rate of pay.
